Ephedra, Ephedrine, Mahuang?
Ephedra, or Mahuang, has been
used in traditional Chinese medicine for over 5000 years – in fact, ephedra is one
of the oldest known medical treatments. In essence, ephedra is derived from an herb
called Mahuang, which has been used in Chinese medicine for thousands of years to
treat water retention, asthma, and sweating – moreover, it is a very potent and
all-natural bronchodilator, which means it has extremely efficient decongesting
properties. Additionally, another usage of ephedra is its
ability to suppress the appetite of an individual and to increase the inherent
metabolism of the body – fundamentally, the sympathetic nervous system is naturally
stimulated by ephedra, which in turn increases the body’s rate of thermogenesis,
or more simply, the amount of food being converted to heat. Conventionally, people
with a low metabolism (a low basal metabolic rate) would use mahuang/ephedra to
control and effectively hinder the amount of food being converted to fat.
Generally, Ephedra
for weight loss is sold in capsule form, with a serving size of
anywhere between 10mg and 25mg – as a broad rule, if a capsule has 334mg of Mahuang,
it will yield about 20mg of ephedra.
Many people say Liquid Ephedra is a much more potent dose of ephedra,
and it is usually also available on the market – actually, many people report an
immensely larger energy boost from liquid ephedra than capsule ephedra. However,
many people are also hesitant to use the liquid form – this is simply due to the
fact that many large manufacturers and brands use capsules rather than liquid ephedra.
Similarly, early Mormon settlers who used to boil the leaves of Gnetaceae Genus
Ephedra, which is a branched bush like plant that grows in the desert, and they
would drink the resulting brew – this has now commonly referred to as Mormon
Tea. Moreover, there are very potent leaves that are available, most
of which come from China or India – they are used in the same fashion to create
a very powerful energy drink that many people around the world use to boost their
energy levels, weight loss, or to be used as a decongestant.
